How to change to your favorite length

Posted: Posted:

I will write about how to change the length of the pattern to just the right length for you.

This blog publishes a free paper pattern, but the size is basically one, and it is often written that "Please adjust the length to your liking".
The most reliable way to arrange the length is
"Measuring your body"is.
We will introduce in detail how to measure your body and how to measure by yourself.

About the need to measure your body

The model in the photo is 165 cm tall and I am 158 cm, so why not try shortening the length by about 5 cm for the time being?

It seems that there are many people who change the length.Of course, that's fine, but body shapes vary from person to person.Even if I somehow predict it from my height,If the bust and body thickness are different, the length will also change...And the length that suits you and the length that you like depends on the person. Before you start makingThe most reliable way is to measure and check your body.

How to measure by yourself

If possible, it is better to have someone measure it, but there is a way to measure it alone.that is,Stand in front of the mirror and hang a tape measure, Is the method.

This allows you to measure by yourself.

POINT

Let's know how many centimeters your favorite length and suitable length are.The sense of length will be refined with familiarity and experience ♪

Then I will explain how to measure each item.

Tops and dresses (no switching)

I will explain how to measure in the case of tops and dresses without switching.

Straight blouseTake as an example.
If you check the size chart, the length is 57 cm, so put out a tape measure of 57 cm.

Stand in front of the mirror and hang the tape measure on the 0 cm part of the tape measure at the intersection of the end of the neckline and the shoulder line (may be about).

Allow the tape measure to pass high in the chest.Look in the mirror and check the position where the measure is hung down as the hemline.

POINT

In the case of tops, the length will change depending on how you wear it.For example, if you want to wear it with the hem in, make it longer (it depends on your height, but I think it should be about 60 cm).

Is it long?If you feel it, take the tape measure a few centimeters shorter and hang it down to check.
The same is true for one-piece dresses, and check the length of the finished product by taking it out with a measure and hanging it down.

Tops and dresses with switching

I will explain how to measure tops and dresses with switching.

Straight-cut gathered dressTake as an example. It is a design with a switch at the waist.
If you check the size chart, the overall length is 110 to 116 cm, so for the time being, put out a tape measure of 110 cm.

Place the 0 cm part of the tape measure on the area where the end of the neckline and the shoulder line intersect (or about), and hang the tape measure. The position where the tape measure is hung is the hemline, so check it in the mirror.

If you want to make it a little longer, put out a tape measure a few centimeters longer and hang it down again to check.
For example, let's make the overall length 120 cm here!Suppose you decide.
Next, let's get the skirt length.

Look at the pattern,Check the length of the bodyTo do.The length of the body is 43 cm, so the value obtained by subtracting 120 cm from 43 cm is the skirt length.
Overall length-body length = skirt length
In this case, the skirt length will be 120-43 = 77cm.

Supplemental

If your height is around 155cn or less, you may want to shorten your body length. In that case, measure the position of the hem of the body with your own body and adjust it in the same way as measuring the tops. When switching the waist, try raising it by about 3 to 5 cm.Once you have decided on the length of your body, subtract it from your overall length to calculate the skirt length.

Bottoms

I will explain how to measure for skirts and pants.
Easy gathered skirtTake as an example.

If you check the size chart, the length is 72 cm, so put out a tape measure of 72 cm.

Stand in front of the mirror, place the 0 cm part of the tape measure on "the place where the waist is most constricted", and hang the tape measure.

The position where the tape measure is hung is the hemline, so check it in the mirror.

POINT

When extending the length to the hem, the impression will change depending on the height of the heel of the shoe.It is sure to put on shoes and measure.

Is it long?If you feel it, take the tape measure a few centimeters shorter and hang it down to check.
For pants, measure in the same way.

sleeve

I will explain how to measure when adjusting the sleeve length. Most of the patterns on this blog are drop shoulders, soThe sleeves are decided by the sleeve length (Yuki length)..Sleeve length is the length from the center of the back through the shoulders to the cuffs.

Three-quarter length straight blouseTake as an example.
If you check the size chart, the sleeve length is 67 cm, so put out a measure of 67 cm.

Stand in front of the mirror, place the 0 cm part of the tape measure on the "back center of the base of the neck", and hang the tape measure along your shoulders on your arm.

The position to apply the tape measure is just behind the neck, and when you touch it, the round bones will be crisp.

Look in the mirror and check the cuffs where you hang the measure (it will be a little strange, but do your best!).
Is it long?If you feel it, take the tape measure a few centimeters shorter and hang it down to check.
For example, here, let's shorten it by 3 cm from the original design!Suppose you decide.

When I check the drafting, the length of the sleeve drawing is 34 cm, so subtract 3 cm from that and 34-3 = 31 cm.Make the sleeve length 31 cm by fixing the pattern.

Summary

This time I wrote about how to change the length of the pattern. Please try to make it with the length that suits you best.I hope you find it helpful.
